Friday night, we visited McGrath’s Fish House to try them out on their second night of business. We arrived at about 6:15 to a packed house – I guess folks in FedWay like to eat early. We were advised of the 45-minute wait and were handed a pager. We found a spot at the bar – a very nice bar, but not nearly large enough. The bartenders were extremely busy but still helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, they were pouring drinks with jiggers – tacky - hopefully, the free pours will take over when the owner isn’t on premise.
We were seated about 45 minutes later, as promised. Again, the wait staff was working frantically but were quite pleasant. The entree prices were reasonable – most everything was under $20. The wine selection leaves a little to be desired – we’d like to see more Washington wine, but the prices were in-line with what you might expect from an establishment such as this.
We ordered Tombo Tuna off the fresh sheet ($16.99) and Steak with Dungeness crab ($17.99). Both meals were served with steamed vegetables and choice of side. The steak was more rare than we had expected, and the waitstaff was very prompt and courteous in fixing it. The tuna was perfectly seared and rare and tasted plenty fresh. The veggies were great and plentiful.
We think McGrath’s will do well here in Federal Way – both as a place for a nice lunch and a slightly higher-end dinner than readily available on 320th.

We’re really tired of the normal sources for restaurant listings in Federal Way: websites that appear to be local; citysearch, dex, etc…. they really don’t know FedWay, casue they aren’t actually living here. We do live here. And while we don’t get out as nearly as we’d like to, we think we are best positioned to actually keep up with what’s going on in the Federal Way dining scene – if you can call it that.
Head on over to our new food & drink page and check out the listings of eating and drinking establishments here in Federal Way. That’s all we cover, and we actually go to these places, so we know a thing or two about them.
While it is clear that from our lack of recent postings that we’ve been way too busy these days (new job, baby on the way), we hope that our restaurant listing will become a great resource for the community. You can even leave your own reviews if you like!
The info right now is pretty basic, but we hope to expand on the details of what is available here. Feel free to drop us a line with update, images, etc, or to leave your own review right from the detail page for each establishment. There may be a few kinks in the works, but we think we’ve got the bulk of it working – let us know if you’d like something a little different or if things don’t work the way you think they should.
Enjoy!
