Another New Hotel on the Way

March 27, 2008

Shortly after the site for the new Hampton Inn & Suites was fenced off, a notice for another new hotel has been filed with the city.  A new Residence Inn by Marriott is being planned for Pacific Hwy S at S 356th Street.  The four-story hotel is slated to have 124 room – and is a much-needed addition to an area that currently has many hotels you couldn’t pay us to stay at.

New Local Brewery Tasting – Saturday

March 14, 2008

Fresh off of their debut party this week, Laughing Buddha Brewing Co. (of South Seattle) will be pouring samples of their two current releases - Dragon King Lager and Pandan Brown Ale - at 99 Bottles.

According to Laughing Buddha, their aim is to be an innovative craft brewery designing unique, modern Asian style beers.   Unique is right!   Pandan Brown Ale is brewed with palm sugar and pandan leaves.   While not the typical normal northwest hop-bomb, we can’t wait to give this new entry into the local microbrew scene a try.

If you can’t wait for tomorrow’s tasting, you can swing by and pick up a couple at 99 Bottles tonight (if they’re still in stock).  We plan to enjoy sampling the bottles we picked up yesterday!

Spring Recycling Event this Weekend

March 11, 2008

The City of Federal Way’s twice-annual residential recylcing event will be held this Saturday at the Twin Lakes Park & Ride from 9am – 3pm.   Last year’s event took items totalling over 175 tons from over 2,000 vehicles.  Check the City’s mailer for all of details, but they take every thing from scrap metal (for free) to computer monitors ($10 cash charge – a bargain).

Haven’t thrown out (or even taken down) those broken Christmas lights yet?   Federal Way’s own recycler extrodanarie Jessica Lam will be collecting light stands and other cords and cables with proceeds benefiting Federal Way’s World Vision.   We’re not actually sure if Jessica will be there or if the city is just carrying on her cause – either way, it really is time to take down those lights…

New Hotel for Federal Way

March 7, 2008

The fences have gone up (and not much else at this point) at the new Hampton Inn site at 31626 28th Ave S - just north of the Marriott Courtyard.  (Incedentally, I think the Courtyard is one of the best places for drinks in Federal Way.)

Currently, Federal Way has around 900 hotel rooms – La Quinta is the largest at 165 followed by the Courtyard at 160.   The new Hampton Inn & Suites (part of the Hilton family of hotels) will come in third at 143 rooms.  In addition to adding to Federal Way’s room count, one can only assume that the Hampton Inn will likely include additional meeting and conferencing space that is currently only really available at three area hotels – the Courtyard, La Quinta, and Clarion.

Site to Watch

March 2, 2008

This is old news, but hey, I haven’t posted in months….

The Symphony mixed-use project has a website up.  Not much to see at this point, but stay tuned.  Groud should be breaking soon.
