It’s official. We’re loosing a Starbucks. I’ve never bought coffee at the Top Foods Starbucks, and I guess I am not alone. Who buys coffee before grocery shopping?
Hopefully, part of Starbucks new re-invention plans include a new store for Federal Way – something large where you can sit down and read. We also hope that if another coffee stand opens in Federal Way that it will be a local outfit – like Poverty Bay.

What SBUX in FW isn’t large enough to read in? Dash Point SBUX is large enough to hold group meetings in. Even the one in the mall has at least enough space to sit and read. I think you’re only thinking of the 320th pad location which has what, 2-3 indoor tables?
Probably all the supermarket SBUX stands should be closed. The baristas there don’t know how to make half the drinks. Some are not even staffed by SBUX but by supermarket employees who have received only basic instruction. The one in Albertson’s is particularly useless. I’ve never been to the Top Foods stand either and I used to shop there often.
If you add in all the in-store SBUX stands, Federal Way has (at least) 10 SBUX. That’s about one for every two square miles or every 8,000 people. (And we also have Poverty Bay, Marista’s, Austin Chase, Fox Hollow, two Tully’s, Kelly’s, Borders Cafe, and at least half a dozen places I’ve never heard of.)
On another note, the new Vivanno drinks are dumb, and so is the plan to get rid of breakfast sandwiches.

Yeah, what he said.
Am thinking Top Foods and $4 coffee was probably a slight disconnect.
I’m just surprised Federal Wayan didn’t take issue with you encouraging Starbucks to open another store instead of encouraging a local outlet like Poverty Bay to jump in and seize the opportunity.
If there is an opportunity. You know where a Starbucks is really lacking? On the east side of the 5. Well, Starbucks and any sort of place that sells food (save for one or two lone mini-marts). I know that the people of East Hicksville don’t deserve anything, but there is a lot of people working at Weyerhauser, World Vision and in the other office complexes Weyerhauser has erected. There are drive-through Starbucks on 348 and 320, but both involve crossing the 5, a time-consuming process that would prevent anyone from “popping ’round for a quick cup of coffee” in the middle of the morning, a sort of mental barrier that prevents anyone from sending someone out on a coffee run.

Personally, I can not think of a better place than Marista’s to have a coffee in…….it’s warm and cozy and the people are always friendly!!!
